Underworld
The Great Escape Game Leeds
A moody, low-scare graveyard adventure with strong atmosphere, crawl-space movement and a traditional puzzle core. It is better for teams who value theme and physical variety than for those chasing sleek, high-tech spectacle.

A Moody Descent
Underworld is built on atmosphere before it ever gets to the puzzles, and that is exactly the right call. The graveyard styling, low light and compact crypt-like feel give the room a convincing gothic edge without tipping into horror. It is more eerie adventure than terrifying descent, with enough theatrical detail to make the setting feel properly considered.
The game leans hard on teamwork, observation and a mixed bag of riddles, symbols and logic tasks. It is mostly traditional in structure, with padlocks doing plenty of the heavy lifting, but there are character ability twists and small structural surprises that stop it feeling entirely standard. One fair verdict is that it is “well-designed but certainly not easy”.
What makes Underworld stand out most is the movement. Crawling is part of the design, including at least one tight gap, so this is a room that asks for a bit of commitment as well as concentration. That physical element adds immersion and suits the moody setting, but it also means the experience will not suit everyone, especially players who dislike low light or cramped spaces.
The scare level is very low. Despite the gothic dressings, this is family-friendly rather than frightening, and the tone stays on the right side of spooky. That makes it a sensible choice for mixed groups, families and teams who want a darker theme without jump scares or heavy horror baggage.
There are caveats worth noting. A few players have flagged uneven flow and the occasional tech niggle, so this is not a pristine high-tech showcase. Still, if you value mood, teamwork and a room that feels a little different in how you move through it, Underworld is worth a look. It has real character, even if it is not the smoothest ride in Leeds.
Underworld leans more into mood and movement than machinery. Its strongest shape is the graveyard atmosphere, crawl spaces and room-layout surprises, while the puzzle set stays rooted in classic locks, symbols and teamwork-led progress.
